| OA Best of and DVD Tue, 24 Jun 2008 16:59:09 -0600 The Oxford American "Best of Issue" is out July 1. Like past installments, it's a mish-mash of odes to the weird and wonderful South —"the wildest river in America, jailhouse cuisine, skinny-dipping in the Big Easy, two larger-than-life world explorers, a Texas con man who discovers the biggest oil field in America, war art from the front lines, the best damn football book." Plus, Times columnist Derek Jenkins has assembled a companion DVD that includes lost footage of Big Star, excerpts from the likes of Ed Pincus and Ray McKinnon and lots of zany, awesome looking other stuff. I can't get enough of that Johnny Cash clip. That's El Dorado native Richard Leo Johnson's music on the trailer. |
