Those who recall with twisted fondness or wracked nerves the phenomenon known as the Jim Rose Circus on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour or Nine Inch Nails' 1995 Downward Spiral tour are well advised not to miss 999 Eyes Freakshow. Celebrating living human oddities, the vaudeville-style show features the antics of the Half Woman, Lobster Girl, the Dancing Dwarf and Black Scorpion. Also performing is That Damned Band, which has an authentic accordion-driven repertoire of original and folk songs from traveling midway origins, who've been described as sounding like “A circus train wrecked into a hobo camp where wandering Jews and Gypsies from Eastern Europe have been learning Irish drinking songs from Tom Waits.” Eighteen and older are admitted.

When he's not opining about sports as A Boy Named Sooie, Times columnist Derek Jenkins is a huge movie geek. For a Fayetteville festival this past weekend, he recast an apparently already whacked out version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (from 1935) into a hallucinogenic short that you probably shouldn't watch in any fragile state. Actually, be warned, watching any piece of this in any state is gonna freak you the hell out.

Baxter County 4-H members recently chose lots for feeder pigs at Baxter County Fairgrounds. Area citizens and businesses sponsor a 4-H market hog project for 4-H members. After selection, each feeder pig went home with a 4-H member. In September, participants will show market hogs for judging. Awards will be given for grand champion and reserve grand champion market hogs, as well as champion and reserve champion hogs in each weight class.
